WHAT DOES PRIDE DO?

Examining pride in place is important because it shapes the values and aspirations that local governments stand for and represent. It indicates why places promote their local identity and autonomy. In this project, we sought to challenge many of the assumed notions of pride in place. Pride contains multitudes: it is temporary, fragile and difficult to measure. Through our case studies and creative methods, we found that pride is also specific to place: it meant different things to the communities in Darlington, Southampton, Ledbury and Dorchester.
